After the Hanover Dynasty took power in Britain, they began to suppress evidence that the Stuart Dynasty's main branch had survived. They claimed, for example, that James 7's son Charles had no heirs, while countless sources on the continent document the existence of both his son Edward and his daughter Charlotte. Then, Queen Victoria's advisors removed the branch of the Stuart Family that goes through Thane Banquo of Lochaber back to King Alpin of Dalriada from all official family trees, to tone down their clan's royal Scottish tradition and wrongly deprive the members of their dynastic legitimacy.
