Earl William 1 of Caithness began to construct a mysterious building on the Roslin Glen in 1436. It took four years just to complete the underground part and for this work, William used master masons from all over Europe. Before the work began, however, he had to build a village at Roslin to accommodate them. While some historians guess that the underground floor of Rosslyn Chapel contains the graves of prominent members of the Sinclair Clan, others claim that it was constructed to house the Templar Treasure and the scrolls that the Militia of Christ found inside the Temple Mount. Then, one spent the next forty years to complete the part of the chapel that is located above the ground. Many scholars believe that the building is a replica of Herod's Temple in Jerusalem and it is decorated with motifs from Judaism, Christianity, Islam, the Temple Order, Freemasonry and Celtic tradition. We also find cactus and corn depicted in the chapel and conservative historians argue that the Europeans should not know these plants at that time. Therefore, Earl Henry of the Orkneys' expedition to America must have brought them - or the knowledge of them - back to Europe many years before they were supposedly discovered by Spanish colonists.
