The die-hard notion that the hairy mammoth lived under Arctic conditions are being disputed by several researchers. Instead, most findings suggest that these animals ate grass in swampy areas. They have been called "Lords of the Tundra" because it is primarily in present polar regions that we have found the remains of them, but it is doubtful whether these areas can have been tundra while the mammoths lived there.
