Jesus could not have grown up in the Galilean town Nazareth, because it did not exist until at least eighty years later, when Nazareans began to stay there. Thus, we see that "Jesus of Nazareth" is an incorrect translation of "Jesus the Nazarean", that is to say that he was a member of - and periodically the leader of - the Nazarean Sect. Instead, he grew up in the village Emmaus, an annex to the monastic community of Mar Saba that was also called "Nazareth".
