Neither Joseph nor his son Jesus were qualified woodworkers. Instead, the words that have been incorrectly translated as "carpenter" describe a skilled master in any discipline, primarily theoretical ones. Although they at times may have made their living as woodworkers, there is still no reason to believe that this was their real occupation. Instead, they were "well-studied religious leaders" and in turn "the accepted dynastic heir to King David's Kingdom".
