While Alexander the Great conquered land as far east as present-day Pakistan and all the way north to the former Soviet republics, his fleet of eight hundred large vessels explored the coast eastward under Admiral Nearcus. But a part of this fleet disappeared inexplicably when Alexander retired to the Middle East in -324. There is much evidence that the missing ships reached Pacific islands like Tahiti and Hawaii, as many words in the tribal languages of these islands are very similar to the Greek words with the same meaning.
