Some 69% of American adults are overweight, but less than 10% of the population has diabetes. Losing weight lowers your risk. A study done by the National Institutes of Health showed that people that lost an average of 15 pounds and exercised for 150 minutes per week lowered their risk of type 2 diabetes by up to 58%.
