The Biblical figure Miriam is mainly based on Akenaten's wife and half-sister Kiya the Elder. Thus, the Bible is right when it calls her "Moses' sister". In the "forgotten" Book of Jasher, she is, however, described much more thoroughly than in the Bible and here, we can also read that it was the Edomite Jasher and not Joshua that took over the leadership when Moses died.
