With his father-in-law Jethro's help, Moses could elevate the Midianite war, storm and volcano god YHWH to the desert wanderers' new god by merging elements from different divine concepts and historical figures that were worshiped as deities. All allusions to the existence of multiple gods were now tried removed and although YHWH originally was supposed to be gender-neutral, he lost almost all his female aspects. Since one initially didn't know how to pronounce YHWH, however, some people began to put vowels between the consonants and thus arose the name "Yahweh". Moses maintained his mandatory requirement that, like Aten, the new god should not be depicted.
