The Ten Commandments are actually "ten concessions" from the ancient Egyptian tradition, which we can find both in The Book of the Dead and elsewhere. They were now circumscribed into decrees. "The Lord of the Mountain" that allegedly gave the commandments to Moses, however, was not a supernatural, abstract deity, but Moses' father-in-law Jethro, who used this title in the capacity of Midian's High Priest.
