While most new smartphones can charge completely within an hour or two, they will never overcharge themselves. New smartphones are built with sensors that can detect heat and charge. They will automatically cut off when the charge is complete and if the temperature of the battery exceeds the rated measurements. People familiar with this myth are also scared that leaving the phone to charge overnight will reduce the battery’s capacity. Don't worry - Lithium-ion batteries are used inside all smartphones today; and have been built with protection circuits for overheating and overcharging. When your smartphone is charged, the internal circuit of the smartphone will cut off the power and trickle charge the battery to keep it at full capacity. It's completely safe and OK to keep the charger connected all night or even during the day.
