The Scots stemmed from Princess Scota, who started her life as Princess Meritaten the Younger. She married the Greek Prince Gaetel, who gave his name to the Gaelic language and culture. After a wandering life in Spain and Ireland, their descendants finally reached Scotland around -500. The Scottish nation-state was founded several hundred years later, when the Scots conquered Pictland further east and Scotland obtained the extent that it still has.
