By law, researchers must work to minimise the suffering of animals in laboratories. This might be by using analgesia or anaesthesia to alleviate pain during or after a procedure, or it could be providing enrichment for animals in order to encourage mental stimulation and prevent boredom. 95% of procedures are classified as mild or moderate. It is in researchers' interests to make sure animals suffer as little as possible; stressed animals are less likely to produce reliable results. All animal research must pass an ethical evaluation which weighs up its pros and cons; and decides whether it is justified. The research then has to be approved by inspectors, who are all doctors or vets and who ensure that high welfare standards are applied.

Actually this is very true. Animals are kept in barren cages often of too small size for the animal in question. The animals are not always given anaesthetic. That defeats the point of seeing what something does. How do you think they test pain levels and psychological stress? By inflicting it on animals purposely.
You should watch undercover footage of a vivisection lab. You'll see plenty of suffering there. There is no ethical reason for testing on animals so the ethical debates they have before funding is pointless. Cigarettes are still tested on animals. As are many cosmetics and household products. Psychology testing forcibly tears a newborn monkey from their mothers and puts them with fake mothers made of a simple stump covered in fabric. Rabbits have chemicals poured into their eyes. Cows have holes cut into their sides so scientists can see into their stomachs. Apes abd monkeys have their skulls taken off and electrodes implanted into the brain as do many other animals. And here you are saying they don't suffer? You are making light of the suffering and deaths of millions of animals.

If lab animals suffer nowadays, it's because unscrupulous lab owners don't follow the law. If they are discovered, they risk fines, imprisonment and having their labs closed. No serious pharmaceutical company today is using products from an uncertified lab. Treating animals in a cruel way is a crime down the same alley as human trafficking and child labour : Dispicable and cowardly!
