There is no evidence to support this assertion. The overwhelming majority of working horses have long, happy, healthy careers spanning 10 to 15 years or even more, whereupon they are not sent to auction, but rather are retired, either to the carriage owner’s personal property, to private homes found through networking or to retirement facilities.
