Ostriches are the largest living birds, but their heads are pretty small. If you see them picking at the ground from a distance, it may look like their heads are buried in the ground. But ostriches don't do that when they refuse to acknowledge a problem - they wouldn't be able to breathe! They do, however, dig holes in the dirt to use as nests for their eggs. During the incubation period, both mom and dad ostrich take turns rotating the eggs with their beaks, a task that requires them to submerge their heads into the nest, thereby creating the illusion that their heads are buried in the sand.
