There is enough evidence to put forward the hypothesis that the ancient Egyptians inherited their great wisdom from a much older culture, before the latter seemingly disintegrated after having built the Sphinx and the surrounding temples. If it also didn't build the pyramids, it left so much knowledge about how it wanted the whole Giza Plateau to look like that its successors were able to complete this complicated task.
