Normally, a religion is defined as "a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies". Within such a framework, atheism clearly falls outside this category. Also, atheism lacks all the typical identifiers of a religion, like the belief in supernatural elements, "holy scriptures", dedicated places of worship, a theology and/or liturgy, prayers and the notion of an afterlife. It has been said that so-called non-believers have just as little in common as people not collecting stamps or people not wearing hats.
